So, I flipped a coin on whether to write about Friday the 13th or Valentines day. not long ago, my 7 year old daughter A. drew this picture.  i love it for SO, SO, SO many reasons. and i won’t try to recount them here.  but, it really was an amazing creation.  when i asked A. to tell me about it, she politely demurred and said “not now mama, i’m playing.”   i waited a few days and tried again – “A., sweet girl – is this a picture of you?”  she looked at the picture, grinned up at me and said quite plainly and without the remotest trace…read more

blech.  feh.  ptooie. it’s a Monday.  a short-staffed, phone ringing off the hook, tons of emails and chats, walk-ins galore kind of Monday.  D. kindly made a batch of his stellar homemade chicken salad for me and i packed an arugula roll-up for lunch.  in true Monday fashion, i ate my lunch at 9:05am.  so, i unadvisedly went next door for a snack just now.  i only had a minute – literally – so i grabbed a pack of M&Ms… back at my desk, and knee-deep into an email consult…read more

he found us. well technically, he found my twin first.  their friendship was built on a barter/trade system.  where he would refrain from depositing a freshly caught squirrel on her front porch and she in turn would leave a can of tuna out for him. when they brought home a jack russell puppy  – S headed down the sidewalk and began dropping birds and voles on our porch. a permanent dinner guest. evidently, arby’s roast beef and jeopardy are a magical combination for a cat.  throw in an undeniably comfy area rug recently purchased…read more
